App Deletion and Data Retention Policy

Last updated: October 5, 2026

This page explains what data the Captain Speaking mobile application (the "Application") stores, how long we keep it, and how you can delete it. It complements our Privacy Policy.

1. What Data We Store

The Application does not require you to create an account with an email address, password or name. When you first open it, it signs you in anonymously and assigns a random user identifier. Linked to that identifier we store only:

  • your quiz progress: score, skill statistics, number of quizzes completed, the list of completed quizzes and quiz history;
  • a push notification token for your device, if you allowed notifications;
  • feedback messages you choose to send from the Feedback screen, together with the platform, app version, OS version and device model.

Your Radio listening progress is stored only on your device and is never sent to our servers.

2. Deleting Data Inside the App

You can reset your learning data at any time in the Application: open the Profile tab and choose Reset progress. This erases your score, statistics and quiz history stored on our servers and your Radio progress stored on the device.

Uninstalling the Application removes all data stored on your device, including locally cached content and Radio progress. Uninstalling alone does not remove data stored on our servers; to remove it, use the request described below.

3. Requesting Full Deletion of Your Data

To have all server-side data linked to you deleted, including your user record, push token and any feedback you submitted, send an email to techops.captain.speaking@gmail.com with the subject "Delete my data". Please include:

  • the platform you use (iOS or Android);
  • your user identifier, which you can find in the Profile tab of the Application. If you can't find it, tell us the approximate dates you used the Application and we will do our best to locate your record.

Because the Application has no personal accounts, we need this identifier to find your data. We will confirm by email when the deletion is complete. We aim to complete requests within 30 days.

4. Subscriptions

Deleting your data or uninstalling the Application does not cancel a paid subscription. Subscriptions are billed and managed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), and you must cancel them in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Purchase and billing records are held by Apple, Google and our subscription provider RevenueCat under their own policies, and we cannot delete them.

5. How Long We Retain Data

  • Quiz progress and user record: kept while you use the Application, so that your progress is preserved between sessions and devices. It is deleted when you request deletion. Records that have been inactive for more than 3 years may be deleted without notice.
  • Push notification token: kept until you disable notifications, it becomes invalid, or your data is deleted.
  • Feedback messages: kept for up to 24 months to help us improve the Application, or until you request deletion.
  • Analytics and crash data: collected through Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics in a form that does not identify you personally, and retained according to Google's standard retention periods (up to 14 months for analytics event data).
  • Backups: deleted data may remain in encrypted backups for up to 35 days before being permanently overwritten.

6. Legal Obligations

We may keep limited information longer if required by law, or to resolve disputes, prevent abuse or enforce our Terms of Use.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes are effective when posted on this page, and the "Last updated" date above will be revised.

8. Contact Us
